Åsmund A. Farstad 23 frå Volda, er musiker på fele og hardingfele. Han har røter og hjartet i den tradisjonelle musikken frå Nordvestlandet med Sunnmøre og Nordfjord som sine kjærneområder. Særleg oppteken av spenningsfeltet mellom gamal og ny musikk og der improvisasjon møter tradisjon. Allsidig og aktiv i fleire grupper, i tverrkunstnarlege samarbeid, som solist i ulike konstellasjonar samt pedagog. Åsmund studerer for tida folkemusikk ved Noregs musikkhøgskule og bur i Oslo.
Farstad er for tida aktiv i fleire ensemble og prosjekt, særleg å nemne er folkrocktrioen Kjeltring. Han har motteke ei rekkje prisar og stipend innan både folkemusikk og klassisk musikk, inkludert Teft-stipendet, Sparebank 1 Talentstipend, Fure-stipendet, Bolstadprisen og fleire. Han er A-klassespelemann på både vanleg fele og hardingfele ved Landskappleiken, og var finalist i IntroFolk-konkurransen i 2024.

Åsmund A. Farstad, 23, from Volda, is a musician who plays the fiddle and the Hardanger fiddle. He has his roots and his heart in the traditional music of Northwestern Norway, with Sunnmøre and Nordfjord as his core areas. He is particularly interested in the tension between old and new music, and where improvisation meets tradition. He is versatile and active in several groups, in interdisciplinary collaborations, as a soloist in various constellations, as well as a teacher. Åsmund is currently studying folk music at the Norwegian Academy of Music and lives in Oslo.
Farstad is currently active in several ensembles and projects; especially worth mentioning is the folk-rock trio Kjeltring. He has received a number of awards and scholarships in both folk music and classical music, including the Teft Scholarship, the Sparebank 1 Talent Scholarship, the Fure Scholarship, the Bolstad Prize, and more. He is an A-class folk musician on both the standard fiddle and the Hardanger fiddle at the Landskappleiken (National Folk Music Competition), and was a finalist in the IntroFolk competition in 2024.
